JESUS, JUSTICE, JAZZ!
Fourteen youth and three adults are presently in New Orleans for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America triennial national youth gathering. We are part of some 900 fellow Lutherans from our synod (Lower Susquehanna) and 37,000 nationwide participating in the gathering. The excitement, the presence of God’s Holy Spirit, the enthusiasm of the youth of our church is as palpable in the air as the late July Louisiana humidity. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all from St. Matthew, family and friends, who by their prayerful and financial support made the trip possible.
While we are here, we will join with others in providing more hurricane recovery service in three days than could be accomplished otherwise in three years. While we are here, we are part of the largest “convention” group to visit New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina. While we are here, we will hear God’s Word, worship, sing, praise and learn what it means to love Jesus, do Justice, and be, as they say here in the “big easy,” be “jazzed.”
Interactive events, Bible study, workshops, and service projects, and some opportunities for “touring” fill our days and nights. Prayer, Bible discussion, and reflective sharing conclude our evenings. The people of St. Matthew ought to be proud of the youth who are part of this gathering. We are blessed. God is good!
Pray for us as we continue our journey here in New Orleans. We look forward to returning home safe and sound on Monday. If time permits, I’ll share more with you soon!
