God is Love
How many times have we heard, said, seen the words: “God is Love?” Some years ago, that phrase seemed to be everywhere. Not sure I see it, hear it, as much these days.
It’s true. God is Love! Always has been, always will be! Love, especially God’s love, is on my mind constantly the past several days. Do you know the best-known verse in the Bible? It begins with these words: “For God so loved the world…” (Read John 3:16)
It tells us that love begins with God, is a gift from God, and that God’s love knows no limits of time or space. God loves us so that we might love God, and love one another.
I shared the importance of God’s love with a couple about to be married during their wedding. I sought to speak a word of God’s love to a pair of families and a congregation grieving the tragic deaths of a young family of three at a funeral. Two different events, one of joy and beginnings, one of sadness and endings, both events of worship and hope and promise – yet opportunities to hear anew, in powerful ways that indeed God is Love!
You see because God is Love, there is always hope, mercy, forgiveness. Gifts that overcome, sin, death, and judgment; gifts that help cope with tragedy and loss; gifts that give guidance and wisdom.
God is Love! God so loves us!
