Confirmation Ministries

The central purpose of Confirmation in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) is "to help the student identify with the life and mission of the adult Christian Community and make that mission his or her own".

St. Matthew offers a flexible Confirmation Ministry Program for youth and adults. The course can be completed in two or more years if needed. The sessions are led and taught by our pastors.

The program offers eight foundational seminars. These seminars are held on Sunday afternoons for approximately three hours. Attendance is required. Students are required to attend one confirmation retreat. Attendance registration is also required for worship services and Sunday School. Students are also required to perform church and community service.

Students are encouraged to attend Synod youth activities, attend a standing church committee meeting and the Annual Congregational Meeting. Participating in Youth Sunday is also considered a credit toward confirmation. Confirmation is the "affirmation" of faith. We hope to confirm to our young people the exhilarating power and undefeatable joy God brings to life so that they may "affirm" the same.
